Smita Venkatesh, lovingly known as Guru Maa, walks the path as both a practitioner and a Guru, rooted in the sacred lineage of the Sri Brahma Vidya Sampradaya; as one of our era’s deeply experienced spiritual authorities with over 35 years of Tantrik sadhana.

Nurtured in a family where her father himself was a revered Guru, her journey is not confined to a single lifetime, but unfolds as a sacred continuum shaped by Guru Kripa, deepened through disciplined sadhana, and illuminated by the living presence of Shakti. Through her, spirituality reveals itself beyond fear, distortion, and misconception, in its purest and most authentic essence.

Early Awakening & Sadhana

An Electronics & Telecom engineer, formally educated in Sanskrit from Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Guru Maa embodies a rare harmony of intellectual depth, family life, and spiritual surrender.

Raised in contemporary Mumbai, her early years were marked by an intense inner inquiry into life, death, destiny, and the nature of the soul. These were not passing curiosities, but the stirrings of a deeper spiritual calling. Growing up in an environment immersed in Satvik Tantra through her father, Divya Chetnananda ji, she was naturally exposed to dimensions of spirituality beyond conventional understanding. Her first conscious experience of mantra came during childhood, when the invocation of Maa Kali during a period of illness revealed to her the transformative power of sacred sound, intention, and divine connection. This moment became not merely an experience, but an inner initiation into a lifelong journey of mantra sadhana. Under the guidance of her father, a revered Guru and accomplished sadhak who had divine darshan of Rajrajeshwari Baglamukhi, Guru Maa received initiation into the Vaag Beej mantra at a young age. The spiritual foundation he laid continues to flow not only through her own path, but through the many seekers who now walk the path of Sri Kul.

Satvik Tantra, Sri Vidya & the Path of Inner Awakening

Guru Maa’s path is centred on Satvik Tantra, a discipline rooted in purity, inner alignment, and conscious living. Within this, the sacred tradition of the Dasha Mahavidya forms a profound foundation, with Sri Vidya at the very heart of her sadhana and teachings. Sri Vidya, revered as Rajvidya in the Bhagavad Gita, the highest wisdom, is approached not merely as ritual or philosophy, but as a direct pathway to inner awakening and divine remembrance.

Complementing this is the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, which serves as the foundational compass of her teachings. For Guru Maa, the Gita is not simply a scripture to be studied, but a living truth to be embodied, offering clarity, balance, and direction across every dimension of life. She is especially known for her remarkable ability to unfold the deeper meanings hidden within syllables, mantras, and shlokas. Drawing from dharmik granths and the wisdom of her Guru Parampara, she gently dissolves common misconceptions around Tantra, restoring it to its original Satvik and sacred form.

Guru Parampara & Lineage

At the heart of Guru Maa’s work lies an unbroken Guru Parampara, a lineage sustained through direct experience, transmission, and grace.

It was Swami Nikhileshwaranand ji Maharaj who, upon meeting Guru Maa in her teenage years, recognized her deeper spiritual identity and affirmed her connection to Siddhashram, the subtle realm of realized beings. Such recognitions reflect a lineage that transcends time, geography, and form.

Her journey into Sri Vidya was further initiated through the grace of Dattatreyanand Nath ji of Sri Vidya Sadhana Peeth, Kashi, whose lineage traces back to the great Karpatri Maharaj and ultimately to Adi Guru Shankaracharya.

Through this living stream of wisdom, seekers initiated by Guru Maa become part of a lineage carrying the sanctity, depth, and rigor of one of Bharat’s most refined spiritual traditions.

The Awakening of Vraj Bhava

A transformative turning point unfolded during an unplanned visit to Jagannath Puri during Rath Yatra, where Guru Maa experienced a profound inner connection with Bhagwan Jagannath, awakening a deep Gopi Bhava within her heart.
From that sacred awakening emerged a natural movement toward Radha Krishna Rasa Bhakti, the path of divine love and devotion.

For seekers drawn toward Bhakti Ras, she established Vraj Madhuri, a sacred space dedicated to the divine sweetness of Bhagwan Krishna and Sri Radha Rani, where devotion is not merely practiced, but deeply lived and experienced.

A Living Example for the Modern Seeker

Today, Guru Maa lives in the United States with her husband, a successful entrepreneur, and their two children, gracefully balancing family life with profound spiritual practice. This integration of intense sadhana with contemporary life makes her teachings especially relatable and accessible for modern seekers across the world.

Each year, she returns to India for extended periods to conduct shivirs, guide students, and share the timeless wisdom refined through decades of rigorous spiritual practice and divine grace.
